Freedom In Christ
Freedom In Christ
Romans 12:1 & 2
“Therefore, I urge you brothers (sisters), in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

As we begin this week, may “we” Compelled sisters be aware of what God wants to show us and speak to us. God is calling us to offer ourselves to Him. He has placed upon me a call to fast and pray this week for next weekend May 10 & 11. This is not going to be easy but I’m praying for women and myself to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. The thief has tried really hard to hold us all captive with awful lies that kept us from being free to hear our Lord more. Even as I write this, thoughts not from my Lord are battling in my mind. How can we stop “conforming to the pattern’s of this world”? The thoughts of lies that are not from Heaven have to be recognized and not allowed to be entertained. How long has it been since you decided to not believe the lies the enemy keeps telling you? Example – I need to be perfect, I would be happy too if I had her life, If I do this , I can look like that, nobody really cares about me, if I am doing what others want then they will like me and the list could go on and on. I know you have even more you could to add to this list of lies.

Our wonderful Savior wants to save us from our bad self talk and renew our minds with how He see us all! Please join me this week in some way offer yourself as a “Living Sacrifice.” I can’t tell you how. You need to view God’s mercy for you and hear Him in the way He wants you to hear. I just know He doesn’t want us to just be saved He wants us freed to be Closer to Him and see the view He has of us.

I know there is Freedom when my eyes are focused on my Savior who knew I would need to lay down self. Oh dear sister walk free with me, allow the Holy Spirit to show you areas that you have been believing lies and it has stopped the sweet closeness to Jesus. Put your energies toward pure thoughts and longing to be closer to Our Heavenly Father!

The thinking patterns of this world are easily accepted, but they only hold us captive! They are lies!
Please join me this Friday night for Worship & Prayer at 7pm and whatever the Lord may lead you to do this week (fast something, more prayer time, inviting a friend to the Brunch 10th or to one of the weekend services and other things I have not mentioned). I love you all and praying for us! ~Wendy

Our God Knows Best! Yahweh is Working!

God is Working
God is Working and He knows best! 2 Kings 18.13-19.37

The 14th year of King Hezekiah’s reign
The threats from King Sennacherib of Assyria. Hezekiah tried to peacefully send him away but all the tribute money would not make him withdraw.
Assyrian’s commander’s came to confront the King. They brought bullish words and wanted to speak out loud in Hebrew for all of Jerusalem to hear! It was a act of intimidation and their conceded force! They made fun and insulted the One True God!

How would you respond to this? 18:36, “….but the people were silent and did not utter a word because Hezekiah’s had commanded them, “do not answer him”. The power struggle had to do with much more then just words back at the commanders but about who they served! Everything had spiritual applications in it, the Assyrians were trying to proclaim that their King was a powerful god! Of Course they had actions to back up the destruction they could have on a country, but Jerusalem was told to not say anything. What could they really say, I believe there was a great knowledge of their Yahweh, but I am sure there was some questions of whether or not they had been faithful to Him. Leadership had to show what to do! King Hezekiah laid it all before The Lord.
19:14-16 “Then Hezekiah prayed before the face of Yahweh and said, “O Yahweh, God of Israel who lives above the cherubim. You are God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the world; you have made the heavens and the earth. 16 Incline your ears and hear; open, O Yahweh, your eyes and see and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to insult the living God. ”

I read this morning “For The Lord delights in his people; He crowns the humble with victory” Psalm 149:4, King David knew this and King Hezekiah came to know this here in this passage, because he brought the horrifying threat and destructive fear to the Greatest King of All! He bowed his fear and obvious future destruction under the Power of the Almighty! God brought salvation to them! “An Angel Neutralizes the Assyrian Army”
35 “It happened in that night that an angel of Yahweh went out, and he struck down one hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of Assyria. When they got up early in the morning, look! All of them were dead corpses. 36 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria set out and went and returned and lived in Nineveh. ”

No one could say they conquered the Assyrians, Yahweh did it! It is interesting that King Sennacherib went to Nineveh, it was like God was preparing Nineveh for when Jonah would come and tell then about Yahweh!
This is the One True God we serve He sees all and knows all! I have learned so much about trust through this story! If you are in a place where destructive threats are coming from the enemy! Lay it before our King! He has a plan and knows how He will deliver you!
Remember He delights in you and has it all worked out!

How is God your Refuge?

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms, He will drive out your enemy before you, saying ,’Destroy him!'” Deuteronomy 33:27

Refuge- A security, a safety, a retreat, a sanctuary, a haven or a stronghold.   These are  few ways to describe a refuge, but Our God is more than these words. All thru scripture we read of Him being these things to many people and even encouraged to allow Him to be this for us.   My challenge for us today is have you gone to your Refuge?  Do you know the “How” to get to your Refuge?  Remember just as He promised the Israelites even before He sent the Holy Spirit, He said “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and will bring you back from captivity….” Jer. 29:13&14a.  As soon as I open my soul to seek Him,  He pulls me into refuge.  He gives me His supernatural strength, peace, rest and freedom .   I feel His protection from the fiery darts of the enemy.  I discern the untruth the deciever  is whispering.  I hear and see the Father’s promises.  They are alive , true and make sense.   He is there permanently and has just what we need to get us thru or to refresh us after “the getting thru”.   This is my encouragement today for you. Go to your Refuge!

A message to Baruch(to you?)

I wanted to post yesterday, but time got away from me. As I sat down this morning to take in God’s words, I was reminded again of what I read yesterday. Jeremiah had a hard “calling from God”. In these chapters of  Jeremiah, it seemed like not many would listen to this “mouth piece from God”. How discouraging is that? Of course there are some famous verses in this book like Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” There are the Recabites in chpt.35 who were an obedient group and I am sure that was encouraging to Jeremiah.  Right after they are talked about comes the challenge for Baruch, he wrote everything down for Jeremiah. God directed them to write down everything concerning Israel, Judah and all the other nations for many years. I can imagine that took many hours (no laptops).  Do you know this story?  When they were finished He had to take (big huge scroll) to the Lord’s temple and read it to everyone there. Well it ended up in the kings hands and he had it burned. He sent men after Jeremiah and Baruch to be put in prison.  As they were hiding from the king, Baruch was writing all the words from Jeremiah down again( v. 32 of chpt.36).                                                                                          I am sure there is a lot going thru Baruch’s mind at this time. He was a servant and willing do to what he was told but I am sure redoing everything was time-consuming and disappointing. His buddy Jeremiah is taken later and thrown into a cistern (yuck). Many more things happen thru the chapters and no mention of Baruch until a whole chapter(45).  Jeremiah looks at him and says God wants to say something to you.  God heard what Baruch had said ,vs.3″Woe to me! the Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest”. Baruch was very discouraged. Can you imagine all of your “work” shown no respect and burned up?  I am sure he lived in fear and torment because of who he was and the stand he took along side Jeremiah.

Our Awesome Lord that we serve, says to this discouraged, worn out man, vs. 4&5 “I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted throughout the land.Should you then seek great things for yourself? Seek them not………….but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.”      That must have been just what he needed to hear from the Lord. I was thinking about this promise the Lord made to him, He has given us this promise also thru His Son Jesus. We are free from the enemies in our lives and we have eternal freedom.  Some of you today may be feeling you have no message from the Lord and you can’t feel Him today.  He did more for us, He put into action His words by sending Jesus.  Don’t seek great things for yourself, if you have received Christ, you have received the greatest thing!!!  God sees us and our human focus at times can get down and fear and disappointment with failure feelings can flood in. You are an individual in God’s eyes and He made his promise clear. Hear it today and be encouraged!!!!!!

Leviticus + offerings = blood

This week I have begun reading Leviticus. Chapters 1-16 are outlined as “The way of Access to God; Atonement.”  It wasn’t like experiencing the lines at Cedar Point with anticipation for a great experience. The lines had to be long and all senses were at work.  I am sure from a far off you could smell the animals being offered and hear the bellowing of the animals. My mind tries to place myself in that group of Israelites. Have you ever been to a meat market ? I remember as a little girl going into one with my grandma in Adrian and when you walked in the smell met you. I would try to cover my nose and I really couldn’t look at the raw meat, the man who would help us usually had  a blood stained apron on.  I was so relieved when it was time to go.  I can almost smell it now. Wow, it was bad!!  Could you imagine being in the nice hot desert sun and being last in the line?     In my Study Bible here the noun “offering” (Hebrew corban) is related to the verb that means “to draw near”.  They needed to do this to approach God and to  enjoy His fellowship and blessing.  Sin and darkness had to be dealt with, if anyone wanted to be close to God.  “The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting”(Lev.1:1).   From the beginning of creation our God continued to make ways to bring humanity to Himself.  It was complicated because there was no other way to get around the fact that this is serious.  God created the human heart with a place for Him.  Just because this was a long time ago doesn’t mean that humans have become different in their souls.   The difference is our great freedom from guidelines and ceremonies.   Those poor Israelites had so many things they had to do to draw near to God.  The blood had to be exposed from animals.    This was not an easy task, the process was take the best, kill and drain the blood and place in a special place, then burn up.   Blood makes me uncomfortable could you imagine with all those people that had “fallen short”. What a visual bloody mess!   The lines of waiting and watching as daily blood had to be spilled out and collected to be offered to the Most HOLY GOD!!!!  They had to really think about what they had done and determine in their minds, ” I will never sin again”.   The experience was a sacrifice and painful in many ways. The worth was great to them though! They could be closer to God because He instructed Moses .   God has never stopped being active in drawing humans to Himself.  We have been blessed with the easiest and most affective way.  There are no lines, no smells, no disturbing sounds, no bloody dramatic scenes just simple closeness to the Almighty God.  He saw our great Need and made it simple.  May we not take for granted the Precious Blood of THE Lamb our Savior Jesus!!!!

Exodus reading today

So the dear Israelites have turned to worshipping a golden calf, Moses breaks the tablets with the ten commandments on it.  My question as I read this is what were they thinking, I feel Moses frustration as a leader.  All the punishment could have been avoided if Aaron would have been a better leader. I guess the pressure of the mass got to him. I read it and think what a mess but then we come to chapter 33 and 34.  Moses hears from the Lord in chpt 33: 2. “…. But I will not go with you because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way.”   The people  realize the Presence of God would not be going with them , this really moved them.  Moses goes to the Tent of Meeting to plead with the Lord on the Israelites behalf.   Great picture here as Moses goes outside the camp  to pitch the tent, v.8 says “whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent”.   We forget what it must have been like because we don’t have to rely on one person to hear from God and stand in the gap for our sins.  I wonder if as Moses passed by the people they cried out “please speak for us, we are so sorry and we really need and want God’s Presence”.

We need to recognize that God’s Presence is with us wherever we go.  We take for granted this grace that we live in, because of Jesus, we don’t have to beg for God to be with us.  He is with us all the time!  Now the enemy would love to lie to us and say He has left you because you are not perfect.  Well that was the way it was in the Old Testament but God has made a great way “Jesus”,  Moses was just a human and he led the best he could, but Jesus was both God/human and made the impossible possible.   I say all this to challenge us today enjoy having God’s Presence with you all day every day!!!!  Ex.33:15-16 “Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not  go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”  This moves my heart to the awareness of how close we have God to us!!  God has done all the work, we just need to be thankful and willing to remember He is here with us.  So if you are feeling alone today, you are not!!!  God is here, He is waiting to show you, may our head knowledge collide with our heart and spirit and recognize HIM!!!!  ” Thank-you Father for your Presence!!  Bring peace as we rest in knowing this deeper then ever today!”

Job’s “friend”

I am still reading in Job.  It is a very long book.  I am not complaining  just observing 🙂  Today I read more of Job’s “friend” Elihu, he really loved to share his opinion.  He shared some truths about God!  “How great is God-beyond our understanding”!  He could have stopped there and said” that is why we don’t understand why you are suffering so much Job period”.   This friend had a lot of head knowledge about God but didn’t have the experience of Grace.   He was convinced Job had not worked out his works to please God enough!  My heart is very thankful today for Grace, without Jesus coming we would be in the same boat. Without grace in my life I could see myself  trying to tell someone you haven’t pleased  God enough and so that is why you are suffering. I am looking forward to the end of this book because  I know how God showed His faithfulness and grace to Job.  May I always be a friend that encourages with hope for the best ending  because we have GRACE!!!!  No matter what suffering we are going through, we haven’t made God so mad.  He gave us GRACE to bring us close to Him, don’t make your suffering worse by not receiving God’s riches at Christ’s expense.

Composing Thanksgiving

This thought of Composing Thanksgiving popped into my mind the other early morning and hasn’t left, so I assume it is time to put on paper!

When I was younger, I was very involved with music and so admired the way musicians composed music.  I tried and tried but never was able to put together a beautiful song or a piano piece with melodic melody.  I love singing and at times still sit down to worship the Lord alone on the piano.  My flute skills have gotten away from me and I haven’t touched a handbell for years.  when I was  a little girl  I remember sitting for long periods of time looking out the hallway window singing made up songs to Jesus. I am sure these songs didn’t have great tone quality and were never to be heard by anyone but Jesus!  I will, “sing and make melody in my heart to the Lord”(Ehp.5:19)

Thoughts on  composing thanksgiving has not left me, so I will try to give you an understanding of what we are challenged daily to do!  King David had an idea for this and through his writing we sing what he prayed and thought.  Psalm 95:2″Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song”.   God placed many examples for us  in His Word to read and hear from their hearts of thankfulness.  I looked up “how to compose music”.  Here are some simple steps.  1. Take lessons on an instrument,  2. Learn to listen to the music, 3. Learn the musical scale, 4. Listen to other composer’s music.

A heart of thankfulness can’t be composed over night.  God puts us thru lessons so we learn that we can make thankfulness happen.  When we are going thru the hard times we can’t hear the composition being made because we are working on the situation.  It is when we step back and learn to listen to God’s Word and what He wants to show us through the dark, unfair and ugly things.  We learn things like ” I will never leave you nor forsake you” Heb.13:5 or ” I have plans to prosper you and not harm you”Jer.29:11.  Then we step into learning to not “lean not on our own understanding but in all our ways acknowledge Him” Prov. 3:5,6  After we begin to learn His promises and instruction, we can hear what others are saying as they too have composed a heart of thankfulness in the midst of hardship.  You know them, you are encouraged by them and they challenge you to not give up.  You see, our hearts need to be changed to really have a thankful heart, we can’t stay the same negative way and expect to compose thanksgiving!  It is something of process and work.  Make this November a beautiful month of Thanksgiving.  Take the steps of composing, accept the lessons(they are free ).  Learn to listen to what God is saying.   Learn faith doesn’t come in our own “understanding” and making everything work out.  Listen to  what those who have great faith are saying and be encouraged!!  Watch other benefit from your Composition of Thankfulness!!!!

Faith Challenge Today!!

Okay, In devotions I have been reading Job.  He went through really tough stuff. Here in chapter 19:17 He says even “My breath is offensive to my wife, and I am repulsive to the children of my own body…..”(nkjv)  What a rough time Job is having and then this faith pops out of him v.25 “I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.”  Many times when life is not really working out for us we ask “where are you God?”  I am not saying we are bad for asking that it is just the challenge from Job today that we know Our Redeemer lives and He did come to save us. Job didn’t get to see Jesus come, he was believing the promise. We have the promise fulfilled today!   In the really yucky times today lets rise up like Job and say ” Our Redeemer lives”. We serve an Awesome God who sees and knows everything!
